I loved wooden toys when I was a kid and I kept a lot of my early Brio train sets and pull along toys for Addison. I wanted her to be into them to as I think that although the concept of them is often so simple they are great toys for getting your imagination going and are so so durable when compared to other high street toys these days. My other reason for loving wooden toys is they actually teach children to do things; shape sorters are brilliant for getting co-ordination on little fingers, jigsaws great for learning to match shapes and wooden cars work much better than any commercial car when whizzing around on my wooden floor. For all of those reasons and many more I was delighted when I was asked to review the Melissa & Doug car transporter from WoodenToyShop.
The Melissa and Doug Car Transporter is a fantastic wooden toy for children who love motor vehicles. I would say it is easily as much a toy for girls as boys as Addison was really quick to adapt it to a more girly truck transporter….see later on in the review!
This lovely wooden transporter has a big green cab and a split level loader which houses four colourful wooden cars.
On opening the box I was really pleased with the quality of the item, the wood is lovely and sturdy and the finish very nicely done. Lots of painted bright colours and we had fun getting the names of the colours right and mummy getting them wrong to test Addison. The truck wheels are safely attached so no mummy panic moments that they are going to ping off the minute Addison hits the highway with her low-lowder.
I loved the way that the top level and bottom level of the low loader slid away from each other on the hinged mechanism and this was a new action for Addison to learn but true to form she got it down to a tea with a few goes and was soon working her transporter like a pro.
We have a solid oak floor in the house and it wasn’t long before the transporter was whizzing up and down the hallway, into the kitchen, round mummy’s legs which were apparently a big bridge and into the lounge again where according to Addison “she was getting more trucks”.
I poked my head round the door about 15 minutes later to see the transporter filled to the brim with not only the four cars, but 2 mini rubber ducks, 1 My Little Pony and 3 plastic dinosaurs. They appeared to be off on an adventure around her car mat and there as an emergency when the transporter fell over and My Little Pony was squashed by the yellow wooden car!
Since introducing the toy a week ago it’s been one of the new favourites in the house and Addison has used it with her other wooden toys to create her own imaginary worlds for at least a couple of hours at the weekend. There are loads of additional wooden play sets and vehicles that you can add to this starter item to really create a whole world of motor madness for your little one.

A definite thumbs up from the Mummy Blogger household; the toys is available to buy online at the woodentoyshop.co.uk and is reasonably priced and definitely a toy that will last a long time and provide loads of amusement for your little one whilst helping stimulate their imagination.
