An adopted Brummie: Birmingham an Evolving City

I haven’t always lived in the Midlands, I am a southern girl who was uprooted as a child and some 30+ years on the Midlands is now my home and one I am very fond of. I love shopping and food and theatre and all three of these can be easily found in Birmingham and I have to say that whether you are on a budget or want to be extravagant you will find something at both ends of the retail spectrum.

I remember as a dizzy 19 year old paralegal the joy of working in the city. Living at home my wage packet each month was a tidy sum, and I loved being able to head along New Street of a lunch time into the likes of Karen Millen and Ted Baker with lunch at Bacchus bar and literally get as much as I could carry in an hour. I have to say my bank balance wasn’t quite so keen but the ability to have so many amazing stores in a short distance from the office was and still is every girl’s retail dream.
