What could be better than being offered cake to review? Not much apart from getting to create your very own personalised scrumptious cake and for it to arrive beautifully presented through your letterbox. That is exactly what the clever team at Baker Days do with their range of delightful letterbox cakes.
It has taken the team over a year to get this concept off the ground and running and the business prides itself on offering customers a simple, easy to use and intuitive website that provides beautiful personalised cakes for a variety of celebratory occasions. There are a number of pre-designed (not cheesy) cake ideas to choose from and then the unique option of being able to upload your own photograph for something truly unique.
Whether it is a Letterbox Cake, which slips safely through a letterbox, or a larger party cake you can choose from over 300 designs and 6 cake recipes. It is clear from the attention to detail in the website that the Baker Days team love making cakes for every celebration and they have made it so easy for you to personalise and create your masterpiece.
Once you have chosen your design you can choose from a wide range of cake types and fillings including; double chococlate chip (extra cost), madeira (standard cake), fruit cake (extra cost), gluten free and wheat free cake (extra cost) and carrot cake (extra cost). I opted for the Kitty and Butterfly letterbox cake with carrot cake filling and personalised it for my birthday.
The cake arrived promptly and in a rigid box that fitted through my letter box. I opened it up to find a beautiful pale lemon cake tin with a Baker Days logo ribbon fastened across the tin. I opened it to find a little party pack (candles, gift card, balloons and party horn) included, ensuring that if you had ordered this as a gift that the recipient could have a little celebration too, nice touch. Instructions informed me of how to remove the cake from the cellophane wrapper without damaging it’s beautiful design and I opened my cake with glee.
The letterbox cake is supposed to feed 4 – 5 people, but I opted for small slice for myself and Roo so that we got an extra day out of the cake (cunning plan). When I cut into the cake the sponge was moist and springy to the touch. I had wondered what consistency and texture the cake would be and one bite revealed a light, moist cake that was absolutely delicious and very very scrumptious. The icing wasn’t sickly and the cake wasn’t overly sweet and I could taste that the ingredients used were of a good quality.
The slice didn’t last long on Miss Roo’s plate as you can see and it got a big thumbs up and a request for more. Daddy E equally devoured his piece with glee and we had to hide it from Bertie the cat who tried to run off with the last piece! I love the fact that all of the Baker Days cakes are fresh and will stay in tip top eating condition for at least 14 days from dispatch provided they are kept in a cool dry place such as fridge.
The ingredients used, the finish of the cakes and the choice of fillings made this a lovely gift to have received to review. If I got sent one of the Baker Days cakes I would think this was a beautiful gift with a difference. I have to say that based on the sample I received they are fantastic value for money with prices for the letterbox cakes starting from only £14.99 including free UK delivery.
You can see the whole range of Baker Days cakes on their gorgeous website and they can also be found on twitter, facebook and Google+.
