Kick Some Habits Save Some Cash

how much could you save in 2014Doesn’t sound like too bad an idea in principle does it?  New year, new resolutions, new promises to change lots of things.  But have you ever really considered how much you could save just by kicking out some of your bad habits that maybe put too much of a strain on your pennies?

For me I have little habits that on the surface don’t seem to eat into my weekly budget. A coffee every time I pop into town from Costa at under £3 surely doesn’t add up to much, but if that coffee happens three times a week that’s £9 a week. Then there’s my penchant for beauty buys and grabbing a new lippy, with Brits spending on average £10 a week on beauty products this habit for keeping pretty mounts up.

Well thanks to the clever money people over at Leeds Building Society you can find out exactly how much you can save if you cut out your little excesses and bad habits. They’ve devised a fun, interactive guide that can help you work out just how much you could save if you “Kick Your Habits” for 2014.

The “Kick My Habits” resource helps you assess which of the most common areas you are spending extra money on and where you may be able to cut back. It takes you through a series of categories:

  • Takeaways
  • Alcohol
  • Cigarettes
  • Partying
  • Fashion & Beauty
  • Lunches out
  • Technology
  • Evenings out

I put my little habits into the calculator and was gobsmacked to see that just by cutting back on what I see as ‘little treats’ could save me nearly £1200 a year!  That’s enough for a holiday for me and Roo and would help pay back that little bit I’ve got left on my credit card.

I bet if you check out your little habits using the calculator you’ll be surprised at just how much cash you could save in 2014.  Would love to know what you’d treat yourself too. Click below and have a go….
