Move over jeans – brightly patterned, harem trousers, cigarette pants and ankle grazers, whatever the form trousers for women are this year’s big thing. Statement trousers have been a great way to convert dull office attire or even wear out for evening drinks.
Here are two staple trouser styles that every woman should own to be effortlessly stylish:
Firstly, what are cigarette pants and who do they suit?
By definition: they have a narrow leg with tapering to the ankle, they usually have a flat front with a hook and bar opening and more often than not they’ll have a slight pocket detail at the back. You can get some similar ones here from Cotton Traders.
Surprisingly, this shape of trouser suits most people, the main problem with cigarette pants are that most people simply don’t know how to wear them. Here are a few tips you need to keep in mind:
- For pear-shaped people go for a darker colour on the bottom half and a lighter top (this doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with all these interesting patterned styles that have taken over the shops lately).
- Try different sizes on to find the one that suits – for shorter people take into consideration where the cropped part hits your ankle – there’s nothing worse than seeing what is supposed to be a cropped trouser turn into a full length trouser leg…
- If you’ve got a short body try tucking in a shirt to your trousers which will elongate your look.
An absolute staple in most women’s attire – the linen trouser sometimes gets a bad reputation for being ‘mumsy’ or no longer stylish. But like most things –it’s all about how you wear it!
When most people think of linen trousers they conjure up the image of white linen trousers and an average t-shirt. Done correctly, linen trousers can look stylish. These ladies linen trousers from Cotton Traders are a great option due to the belt detail – tuck a shirt in or a t-shirt; add a statement necklace and you’re onto a winner!
Linen fabric can crease quite easily but it’s also quite a delicate fabric so iron with care.
Wearing trousers when you’re used to wearing jeans, skirts or dresses more regularly can sometimes feel like a bold move. However, follow these style tips and you’ll have no problem transforming your look – and you’ll feel better doing it too!
I have to admit I have a couple of pairs of printed trousers that I bought this season and have loved them. It’s so easy to dress them up or down with either flats or wedges and they make a real change to jeans and much more flattering than leggings!
