I’ve decided to start a feature each month about a British Business. Why? Because here in the UK we’ve got some amazing business owners and I have just purchased a new domain name to create an interactive map of British Businesses so that we can find out just where in the UK fantastic shops, makers and craft businesses are and ultimately boost our economy.
First up on the Best of British Business feature is Pixie Children’s wear boutique . I first met Gillian the owner and her right hand woman Johanna on Facebook and fell in love with their different and quirky range of children’s clothing. Find out just what makes this little boutique so special in today’s market place of children’s clothing in this interview with Gillian the owner.
A Dream Is Born…
As a new mum, I loved it when I discovered an independent boutique where I could find beautiful things. I enjoyed looking for things that were different from what was already on offer on the high street and I began to wonder whether I could make a business bringing this fun shopping experience to other mums.
Having no previous retail experience, and with limited time with my 18mth daughter to look after, I approached the owner of one of my favorite shops [then in Didsbury] with the idea of working together to bring this unique shopping experience to Hale a lovely village already blessed with a wealth of independent shops.
With the help of my husband I created a bespoke, New York-inspired boutique that is both dramatic and welcoming in the heart of Hale village. I wanted to be able to offer an eclectic mix of great products with a few exclusive additions, as well as holding special events like Tea Parties, Fashion Shows & Portrait Days.
I have since taken over the Pixie brand and I am looking forward to developing it further in the years to come.
Our product range
We sell high-quality clothing for babies and children up to 14years from popular brands Scotch & Soda, No Added Sugar, I Love Gorgeous, Angel Face Hucklebones, Levis, Mini A Ture, Petit Bateau, Toffee Moon & Bob & Blossom
We sell a selection of shoes from Step2wo, Hunters, Birkenstocks, Melissa shoes & Supaga.
We have an extensive range of Toys & Gifts ranging from White Rabbit Nightlights, which are perfect keepsakes to traditional wooden toys – including a rocking horse handmade in Hale – and crafts from John Crane, Melissa & Doug, Djeco, The Puppet Co. & Vilac. Burts Bee products are popular for Mum & Baby too.
We also cater for ladies too with our Noa Noa Womenswear range, scarfs & Ladies Hunter wellies. We also now have Estella Bartlett Swarovski Crystal Jewellery which is beautiful and affordable.
