I like cranberry juice and have always found the slightly tart flavour refreshing so when we got sent some vouchers to try the new Ocean Spray juice range I was keen to run out to the shops and get some. Unfortunately all my local stores were sold out and it took me a few weeks to get hold of any but I can honestly say it was worth the wait.
We’re big juice drinkers in this house. Roo loves fresh chilled juices from the fridge and we even have a power juicer that admittedly gets more use in the summer than the autumn and winter months. Juices are refreshing and a great way to get alternative fruit into your kids. I was interested to see if Roo would take to the Ocean Spray juice range as cranberry is an acquired taste.
The new Ocean Spray juice range contains three new products Cranberry Blend, Mixed Berry Blend and Blueberry Blend (or bluebley as Roo calls it)– meaning you can enjoy the velvety smooth taste of pure fruit juice and real fruit puree, straight from the fridge, with all the associated berry benefits.
I had no idea but Ocean Spray was formed 80 years ago by three cranberry growers from Massachusetts and New Jersey, and has since become North America’s leading producer of canned and bottled juices and juice drinks, being a best-selling name in the canned and bottled juice category since 1981. Ocean Spray is an agricultural co-operative owned by more than 700 cranberry growers in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and other parts of Canada, as well as more than 50 Florida grapefruit growers.
Each bottle is jam packed full of delicious fruit goodness with every bottle of 100% juice contains exactly that – 100% juice – and nothing else. No added sugar, artificial ccolours, flavours or preservatives. And every 250ml serving handily contains one of your five a day, as well as your RDA of Vitamin C, so you can drink your way to better health each morning. This is great for us mum’s that are always watching what our kids are drinking (and the daddy’s come to that!)
I love the original Ocean Spray cranberry juice, but Roo did find it a little bit too tart. However, now there are other options with the new chilled versions, the acquired taste of cranberry has been cleverly balanced by other naturally sweeter juices to create a 100% delicious juice. The Mixed Berry Blend went down well with Roo and Daddy E appears to have snaffled the Blueberry Blend for work – I tell you this means war!
The juices are also really good for making fun smoothies out of. We headed off to the Ocean Spray website which has a brilliant recipe section and we discovered this delicious berry chocolate smoothie recipe.
- 2 cups Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice, chilled
- 1 cup strawberry yogurt
- 2 1/2 cups frozen whole strawberries
- 2 tablespoons sugar (we left this out)
- 1/4 cup mini-chocolate chips
Put all ingredients, except chocolate chips, in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth. Add chocolate chips and pulse until chopped. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
This super scrumptious and a little bit naughty smoothie was a treat for Roo after school and was absolutely delicious and a great alternative to just drinking normal cranberry juice from the fridge.
You can find new Ocean Spray chilled 100% Juices in the chilled drinks aisle in Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores nationwide. Expect to pay £2.29 for a 1 litre bottle.
