I am a firm believer in that give a girl the right pair of heels and she can accomplish anything. There is something uplifting about wearing a pair of shoes you love, we all have our favourite pair in the wardrobe, and the moment you slip them on they make you smile, they give you that ‘feel good feeling’.
I had been searching for a new pair of black heels for going out. I already have a pair of stunning Dune zip up heels but they were expensive and I don’t like to wear them every time I go out as they are something special. So last week as I was going out for dinner with J to meet some friends I popped into town to see if I could find something on the high street. To say the offerings were drab would be an understatement, lots of drab styles that I wouldn’t spent £10 on let alone the £40 or £50 being asked, it seems that this autumn there will be a lot of cloned feet tramping the cobbles as there was absolutely nothing of any stand out note to pick.
Feeling disheartened I just happened to take a peek in one of the local independent retailers called Rieve. They stock a lot of brands I like including Irregular Choice and Melissa Shoes. If you’ve not come across Melissa Shoes then you’ve probably had your head in a bag for months. One look on their website you’ll be hooked, and may I suggest in advance you lock up your credit card!
If you browse the website you’ll instantly recognise the iconic Vivienne Westwood shoes and these are just part of the Melissa Shoes brand as they have been collaborating with some of the world’s most avant-garde designers and campaigning with huge household names including Kate Moss, Agnes Dean and Dita Von Teese. It is no shock Melissa has become a firm favourite with Celebrities and all women across the globe. The shoes are made from a highly polished, super comfortable, lightweight and durable Melflex plastic which is patented. Now before you harp on about jelly shoes and how hot and sweaty they make your feet I can assure you that these do not.
The thing I love about the few independent shops we have on the high street is that you can find something different, quirky out of the ordinary which for me is important as I don’t like to follow the herd with my style. As my eyes scanned the shelves they settled on a gorgeous pair of black Melissa Shoes with a peep toe and a cheeky cream bow on the front. It didn’t take long for the little devil on my shoulder to whisper in my ear “buy them” and as soon as I slipped my feet into them my tootsies were in heaven. I loved the height and the slightly vintage shape of the heel making them pretty and practical to walk in and quick as a flash the debit card was given a work out and I was smiling like a kid at Christmas.
When I wore them on Saturday night they were the perfect footwear to go with the gorgeous Great Plains jacquard dress that I am reviewing on another post this week, the cute bow at the front added a splash of colour and black and cream always looks classy. Teemed with my pearls and a simple black clutch I certainly felt a million dollars as I left for dinner. Funny how a pair of shoes can transform your mood and how you feel.
