The Land of Nod

The Bedding Company reviewSleep, I love it.  Hubby jokes that I am a super snoozer and it makes him laugh that I snuggle deep in my duvet each night and for 8 hours drift off to the land of nod.  Our bed is already pretty comfortable and we bought a new mattress about 18 months ago but had been debating about whether or not to get a mattress topper as I’d heard from speaking to various people that they not only improve the comfort of your bed but also have hygiene benefits and can help with allergies.  So when the lovely folks at The Bedding Company asked if I’d be up for reviewing a selection of items from their bedding sets I immediately said yes – because more sleep means one less grumpy mummy!

After looking through the website I opted to try the Silentnight King Impress Memory Foam Mattress Topper which retails at £105.  The mattress topper has several benefits including allergy reduction, pressure relief (so great when Daddy E has a bad back) and also helps prolong the existing life of your mattress.

memory-foam-mattress-topperThe product is described as a “Superior quality memory foam topper from Silentnight.  Extra thick – 5cm deep – this product can help reduce stress, relieve pressure, back pain and aching joints. Not to be confused with thinner, inferior memory foam toppers.  This deluxe topper moulds perfectly to the contours of your body for ultimate support and has the added benefit of being non-allergenic.”

It has the added benefit of coming with a free removable washable cover.

Along with this I also received two Silentnight Spring Back pillows which claim to have revolutionary fibres in them so that you have no more Paul Daniels pillows (the ones where your head just disappears every time you lie on them) and just fluffy bouncy pillows for a good night sleep.

On opening the mattress topper there was the familiar smell you get from memory foam.  The mattress topper was deep at 5cm and covered our king size mattress really well.  The free washable cover was fitted and was deep enough to cover our mattress which was good as often I’ve had to buy superking sheets to get round this.  The topper once fitted as a joy to lie on.  It totally transformed the feel and comfort of the bed.  With the mattress only being two years old I didn’t know what I’d expect from adding a topper but in doing so the bed was firmer and much more supportive around my lower back and under my knees.

The pillows were really springy and although didn’t feel as nice as my duck feather pillows, were better for me as they offered more support and in particular when sitting up in bed reading.  I snaffled both pillows and have noticed a big difference in my comfort levels when sleeping at night and haven’t woke up with a crick in my neck and also the pillows have bounced back to their plump fluffy shape every morning.

The first night on the memory foam topper both of us slept like logs; previous memory foam mattresses have caused us both to get a bit hot under the covers but this wasn’t the case with this and Daddy E remarked how much firmer the mattress was for him which he likes.

Looking at the gallery of photos below too it’s easy to see that Miss Roo also found the bed pretty comfy and I had a job getting the sneaky beak into her own bed come sleep time as she loved ours so much!  Both of these Silentnight products from The Bedding Company are available on their website, they get a big 5 out of 5 from me as they do exactly what they say they on the packaging and can be washed at home too so no big dry cleaning bills unlike with some mattress toppers.  The pillows are excellent value at £9.50 for a pair too.
