I am going to put my hand up and admit to being a virgin….a MAC Cosmetics virgin. I’ve been using make-up since I could tie my own shoe laces but have never added this hugely popular brand to my make-up box.
However, I recently started following the gorgeous Georgina over on the Fairy Gobmother beauty blog (check out her blog if you don’t already know the website) and she had been given some gorgeous MAC Cosmetics mineralize blush by her sister.
In her photos the blusher gave a subtle glow and healthy sheen to her cheeks and it looked a really nice lightweight blush compared to the creme Bourjois blusher I’d been using this summer which had made my cheeks a little dry the last few weeks.
So when I landed here in LA and after a few days of settling into Santa Monica life I trundled on down to the sleek and lovely MAC Cosmetics store and decided to feed my make up addiction and break my virginity.
The staff were lovely, friendly, attentive but not in your face and pushy with sales techniques. I found the mineralize blush myself and opted for the tawny shade Warm Soul as this was perfect for my skin tone and a good colour for the winter / spring. I then decided to quiz the assistant about skin care.
Now usually I use Simple moisturiser and my Lancome Visionnaire serum. However recently the moisturiser just hasn’t been nourishing my skin and with me starting a new a pill I’ve been having breakout patches of redness and little lumps under my skin that have left me feeling self conscious.
A chat with the skincare expert in the MAC Cosmetics store pointed me towards the Complete Comfort Creme moisturiser that has been formulated to instantly rehydrate the skin and provide immediate and ongoing relief from redness and irritation. Ultra-creamy, provides high-comfort wear while providing sensitive skin with the soothing benefits associated with its calming plant-and marine-based formula.
I was instantly sold and trotted off with my new purchases gleefully stowed in the bottom of my handbag….the next morning couldn’t come quick enough to try out my goodies. Opening the moisturiser the next morning I could smell the extract of cucumber and chamomile and I loved the creamy rich texture which was easily absorbed into my skin and left it feeling hydrated immediately on application. It went on well under my serum and acted as a perfect base for my Lancome foundation.
Then it was time to use the mineralize blush. The cleverly baked minerals have a super sheer powder formula that you can apply layer after layer and highlight your best feature without a heavy buildup. Once applied it gives my skin a gorgeous glow and lasts all day and feels really lightweight.
I think it is safe to say I have fallen head over heels for this blusher and am definitely going to be wearing it all throughout the colder seasons to give myself a bit of colour and it works really well even when I have a bit of colour from the sunshine as it still compliments my skin tone.
The only dilemma now is how much luggage allowance I have left in my case as the MAC products are somewhat cheaper than in the UK.
