Why Yorkshire is the place to be this half-term

Half-term is fast approaching but don’t panic, it’s not too late to plan a trip that will keep the kids occupied and be fun for the whole family. Simply head to Yorkshire to make some great family memories and with everything from walks and bike rides on the North Yorkshire Moors to an adrenaline rush at Flamingo Land Theme Park, you’re guaranteed to not get bored here.

May Half-term holidays are the perfect opportunity to get your kids off the sofa and into the great outdoors and there’s no better way to discover the beauty of nature than by visiting the North Yorkshire Moors.

One of the best walks in the North Yorkshire Moors National park is from Robin Hood’s Bay to Boggle Hole. Just three miles long, it’s suitable for all ages and abilities and takes you on a stunning walk along the clifftops or the beach (at low tide) of Robin Hood’s bay. Kids can ride their bikes or build a sandcastle en route to add to the fun of exploring one of Britain’s best-loved national parks.

Families with older kids looking for a challenge can tackle a section of Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast walk, which passes through three national parks in northern England, including the North York Moors.

And when you’re ready to swap the countryside for the city, head to York for a trip to one of Yorkshire’s ‘must-see’ attractions – Jorvik Viking Centre.

Haven’s holiday parks in Yorkshire are never far from Britain’s best tourist attractions and Jorvik is one of the most popular outside of London. It’s built on the site of the houses, workshops and backyards of Vikings that lived over 1000 years ago and it’s the perfect place to give your kids a taste of history.

Take your family on a journey through the reconstructed Viking streets of York and witness what life would have been like 1000 years ago. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet a real Viking!

Don’t Miss

But if you’re looking for a really good time in Yorkshire, one place can’t be missed: Flamingo Land Theme Park. Its seven unique themed areas are tailored to thrill seekers and families alike, and if you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, make sure you ride the Cliff Hanger – one of the tallest vertical drop rides in Europe that’s guaranteed to make your stomach lurch.

Since Haven caravan sites are never far from the action, Flamingo Land is a short 40 minute drive from haven’s Yorkshire holiday parks – Blue Dolphin, Primrose Valley and Reighton Sands. So if you’re after a more relaxed day out with your younger kids, hop in the car and after a short, stress-free journey you’ll be ready to explore Flamingo Land’s very own zoo – complete with tigers, giraffes and all your farmyard favourites in the Muddy Duck Farm.
