It is that time of the year again, the trees are going up, my work colleagues have decorated the office and the house opposite is doing a great impression of an airport runway at night with some serious Christmas light action. Yes Christmas is less than 4 weeks away now and most people are probably stressing about Christmas gifts this year and what to get everyone. Undoubtedly women are the hardest to buy for, take my mother for example. If you ask her what she wants she will nonchalantly reply with ‘nothing, I’ve got everything I need.’
Now I know that if I actually adhered to this request that come Christmas Day there would be a very small Christmas dinner on my plate and I’d probably be relegated to eating in the garage with the cat. So in order to avoid Christmas shunning from my mum this year what are the perfect Christmas gifts for her that I have seen on my travels.
My mum loves to sit and read a good book on her kindle at the end of the day but has this awful habit, as my dad will confirm, of buying hideous tracksuits to sit in. Tracksuits that are neither feminine or flattering and which are more suited to sweating in the garden than lounging on a chaise long. Thankfully though this year this is a solution to lazying about that is practical and so beautifully stylish in the form of Blue Marmalade Pyjamas. Nope not a name for a fancy relish but a range of deliciously decadent lounge and nightwear that is perfect for lounging about on lazy evenings, spending Sunday’s in bed and leave you looking like you are part of the very trendy Notting Hill crowd. I was recently sent one of their baseball inspired silk and jersey lounge suits and everything about it is beyond perfect.
The retro jacket is so Pink Ladies from Grease with its white silk sleeves and toggles and super soft jersey body it keeps me warm on the sofa and doesn’t make me look like a slob when I want to chill out on the sofa with that special someone. The trousers are a super relaxed fit with a nice comfort waistband (for when you over indulge in that extra box of chocolates) and the silk tie waist keep it feminine and a bit sexy too as the fabric is divine. I love the cuffed ankles rather than wide leg trousers as they make your legs look longer and give the pants more of a hareem feel than a jogging bottom.
This is more than your average lounge suit and I know my mother is coveting it somewhat so I am being careful at sending out for washing as I fear it may not come back! Hopefully Santa will treat her and she can finally send her hideous DASH tracksuit to the bin and my father can rejoice.
Another gift us girls love to get is lingerie but unless you really know your family member it could be a little tricky buying for them. Thankfully my mum knows me well and if she bought me anything from Freya, Curvy Kate or Gossard I would be happy. A set that caught my eye recently was this stunning longline floral bra from my favourite brand Freya. I love Freya for lingerie, they know that having big boobs doesn’t mean you have to be boring and their fun, flirty underwear is practical, sassy and comfortable all day which for me is hugely important. This bra is available from online retailer Bras Galore and the reason I love it, apart from the somewhat Bohemian floral inspired pattern which is super pretty, is that being longline it gives you great shape under clothes and can hide that little bit of back ripple we all worry about once we get over 30.
The padded cups are not so padded that you’re going to end up looking like a Playboy Bunny on the school run and actually gently cushion your boobs giving them great lift and shape. The bra has wide straps so is really supportive and is comfortable for wearing all day long. The best thing about Freya is that the fit is spot on. I know I can buy my size and despite it being more of a balconette bra than I usually wear I still get the same great fit as in one of their full coverage bras. So Santa if you’re reading this I’d like to add to my lingerie collection this Christmas.
Another favourite of mine at Christmas is something indulgent for my skin. In the winter it takes a fair old battering what with the weather, central heating and make up and my continuing failure to remember to moisturise more than my face so I always look for a deep nourishing body oil to restore my skin and balance my mood. One of my favourites is a brand called ila. Their ila body oil range is not only beautifully packaged but comes jam packed with essential oils renowned for their dual nurturing and nourishing properties, this soothing blend balances dry, oily and irritated skin, while enhancing emotional wellbeing. Sandalwood calms inflamed cells and stimulates wellness hormones whilst jasmine balances stressed out skin and people (a perfect mix).
Their facial scrub for glowing radiance is another of my firm favourites as it isn’t too harsh that your skin feels like sandpaper after use and it smells AMAZING. Team this with The Body Shop Vitamin E night facial serum for a glowing complexion all winter and people will constantly complement you on healthy, glowing skin. This little bottle is like magic in your beauty regime. Simply add a few drops in your palm at night, warm and apply to your face and neck and your skin feels refreshed and rested. I love the super lightweight formula that is non-greasy (despite it being an oil) and it is absorbed really quickly into your skin.
If any or all of the above ended up under my Christmas tree this year I’d be over the moon! Ultimately though Christmas is about family and spending it with friends so no matter what your budget this year make sure you spend it with those you love and care about and don’t forget to tell them that.
