Let’s face it what woman doesn’t love shoes? For me they’re the fat free equivalent of treating myself to a bar of chocolate and my wardrobe is crammed with far too many pairs, in particular boots. I love boots, they are practical, easy to pull on when dashing for the school run, practical in all weather and they look pretty good with nearly everything – apart from a cocktail dress but I don’t wear one that often so that’s ok. So when the lovely people at Chatham Marine asked me to try their new range of autumn / winter boots I nearly bit their arm off.
For those of you who haven’t immersed yourself in the gorgeous Chatham Marine website yet, they specialise in boat shoes, loafers, boots and gorgeous country footwear. That doesn’t mean you have to live in the country or own a boat to enjoy them as these shoes are designed for all sorts of walks of life.
I was sent the stunning Andalusia Chelsea Boot in navy to try out and it was love at first sight. A chunky, stylish Chelsea boot with a cleated rubber sole unit and made with beautiful leathers as well as a comfortable under foot padding for extra support. This for me was the perfect footwear for autumn and winter as it was flat and would mean no more tottering out to the shops and breaking my neck in the snow and ice. I treated them first with a protective spray as the leather is a waxed leather and will need care and protection to get the maximum wear and longevity from the boot.
After letting the protection spray dry and I popped them on to wear round the house. Despite the chunkiness of the boots they were incredibly light on my feet and I hardly knew I was wearing them. They were warm and best of all even with my slightly wider foot following a break a few years ago were really really comfortable – plenty wide enough for my size 7 feet. They also looked really stylish and equally at home with jeans, trousers and skirts as I matched them up with some chunky leg warmers and my Barbour jacket and felt very ‘country’ — only needed a pony to complete the look!
Driving the car for the school run was easy in these and much safer than attempting it in welly boots which is what I’d been wearing during the bad weather, which quite frankly look hideous and are a deathtrap for driving in. The Chatham Marine Chelsea Boots stood up to the school run well. We bounded over puddles together and traipsed over muddy fields safe in the knowledge that me and my boots were ‘toughing it out’ in semi-rural Staffordshire.
Priced at £69.00 these boots are AMAZING value for money and a style investment that won’t date and will become a wardrobe staple year after year. It’s almost with sadness when I take them off at the end of the day and put them back in their box but do love it when I see the grey clouds in the sky next day and realise that it’s a day to wear the boots again.
