Scrummy lunches with John West

The one thing I have noticed since going to work full time is just how insanely organised I have to be and that means finding quick and easy lunch solutions that will keep me going all day and particularly through the ever so familiar 3pm slump.

Breakfast is easy; a bowl of Shreddies and a bagel keeps me topped up till about eleven when I usually reach for an apple.  I’ve started swapping my coffee for herbal tea and water now and find that this keeps my stomach less bloated and helps my digestive system from feel stodged out.

Nanshy Masterful Collection Brushes Launch

Towards the end of last week a very special and much anticipated parcel arrived.  I’d had the email from their Marketing Director and nearly screamed in the office as this is a company I follow on Twitter and had wanted to work with for some time but never thought they would get in touch.  The company was Nanshy who make the most amazing cruelty free range of professional make up brushes.  Now I am by no means a professional make up artist, don’t proclaim to be an expert at make up or be that adventurous with it. I know what I like in terms of my brands (Illamasqua, Chanel, Benefit, BarryM, MAC, Stila and Eye of Horus) and I have always prided myself on being able to create a look that works for me and for occasions.  To even consider purchasing a set of professional make up brushes would for me be a complete luxury purchase and until last week my Real Techniques brushes had seemed to do a good job….

Yankee Candle Ultimate Car Kit Review

I love my car, Marvin Mini (yes I am a typical girl and named my car).  Marvin is reliable and doesn’t answer back or give me grief when I swap the radio station or sing out of tune.  I look after Marvin because quite frankly without my car I would be absolutely scuppered.  Public transport is beyond shocking for getting about on a day to day basis, I can honestly say at 35 years of age I’ve never stepped foot on a bus and don’t intend to start now.

Once a week Marvin is treated to a mini valet and always looks gleaming afterwards.  When I get back inside to drive him there is that lovely new car smell again as all the leather and dashboard has been polished.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t last long once Addy has got back into the car and deposited the plethora of creatures and food that seem to accompany us on our days out.  By the end of the week Marvin looks a little tired and can smell a bit fresh especially if he’s been carting my gym kit around for a week!

Is our relationship with technology a hidden addiction?

kids addicted to technology

Technology has introduced a societal change like no other in the past couple of centuries.

New, and ever sophisticated, technology has developed at such a speed over the past few decades that children today are growing up in a world immersed with electronic devices, computers and tablets that their parents were only exposed to in adulthood. This change is so significant that experts have begun to describe each recent generation through how naturalised they are to the digital world. Marc Prensky uses the analogy of immigrants and natives to indicate just how much technology has revolutionised the world we live in. “Digital immigrants”, describes the portion of the population for whom technology ‘boomed’ in adulthood and who have had to adapt to technology as a major feature in their lives. Alternatively, “Digital natives” are the most recent generation of children who have been immersed in a technological world from birth, and for whom the use of electronic devices will come somewhat naturally with little or no need for introduction or education.

Little Achievements

kids swimming awards

As parents we all know our kids are special.  Every day they do marvellous achievements that make us smile.  We cheer them on during wet and windy sports days, we run them to footy practice on a soggy Sunday and cry rivers of tears at their class Christmas play or ballet production.  These little achievements and moments for them define them as children and it’s a joy to see their faces light up when they see you or hear you in the crowd or when they bring you their badges and medals is something as a parent you cherish.
