I love autumn. It is my favourite time of year. The colours, the crisp days and this autumn we’ve been blessed with some lovely warm days too that have meant conker picking after school and even the ice cream van has been seen a fe times. It is also my favourite season for another reason. New boots!
I love boots. They are my favourite footwear and I can never go through a season without buying one or two new pairs. Whether it’s heels or flats I love to update my winter wardrobe with new pairs each season and I find them such a versatile piece of footwear as they just go with EVERYTHING!
My favourite pair last year were a pair of over the knee Betty Barclay black boots that I purchased. I spent ages looking for a pair of over the knee boots that didn’t give off ‘slutty’ as the chosen look and these are perfect as they are flat and come just over the knee without making me look like a hooker or a pirate.
This year I’ve been lucky to get two gorgeous new pairs of boots into my wardrobe courtesy of online shoe retailer Charles Clinkard who sent me their beautiful deep burgundy Gabor ankle boots to test out, and also Daxon who invited me to style my own autumn outfit from their online fashion range.
First up let’s look at the Gabor boots. I fell in love with these online instantly. The colour is one of my favourite colours and shades of burgundy are everywhere on the high street this autumn. The wooden stacked heel is a good height but not too high as to make them impractical for the school run or a day out shopping. The rubber soles are also great too for avoiding those all important embarrassing slippy floor moments. The leather is super soft and detailing like the silver buckle and strap make the boots interesting and turn the boot into a dressy shoe that looks just as good with a short skirt as a pair of jeans.
Wearing them they feel super comfortable and are incredibly light and I have worn them for 13 hours straight and shopping trips with no blisters or problems and that’s a testament to the quality of the boots and the leather used. Priced at £115 these are a high quality ankle boot that will easily be fashionable from season to season and the burgundy colour brings warmth to the usual dark colours of the winter wardrobe and is a welcome change from black and dark brown.
The second new pair of boots gracing my wardrobe comes from ladies and men’s clothing retailer Daxon. Now until Daxon contacted me I hadn’t heard of the brand or seen their clothes but their website is packed with clothing at really reasonable prices and they have a lovely Christmas collection if you’re seeking some inspiration for something sparkly to wear over the festive period.
They invited me to choose an autumn outfit from their new collection and I opted for this lovely cotton paisley shirt dress and some long caramel boots. Shirt dresses are great because you can wear them with leggings or tights and they are comfortable all day long so great for those days when you’re running around from one place to another or after the kids and don’t need to be fussing with fashion. The dropped waist is great and gives a good shape when on and even though it’s a little shorter than I would usually wear adding in some opaque tights makes it acceptable for the office without showing too much leg.
The camel boots are a gorgeous rich colour and are a rich leather that is fairly hard and the first few times of wearing requires some good wiggling of your calves to get in and strong fingers. The top of the boots have an expandable gusset which is great if you have wider calves and the 2 1/2 inch heel is comfortable all day long and nice and chunky so you can be confident when you walk. I’ve worn the dress and the boots out several times and even on chilly days the dress is warm despite being cotton. Add on a chunky knit cardie and you’ll be toasty for an autumn walk.
I love the boots for work and my favourite dress to wear them with has to be this cobalt blue dress I picked up from Pepperberry recently. I love putting blue and camel together as an outfit – the two colours work really well and the boots are smart enough for meetings.
I doubt very much that these will be the last pair of new boots to grace my wardrobe before the winter is out, I’ve already got my eye on a pair of gorgeous lace ankle boots as seen on Tamara Ecclestone this week so watch this space!
