My dream when I was a child growing up was eventually to have my own stationery shop, the kind that sold beautiful pens, pencils and papers of all the colours of the rainbow. I loved to draw and would spend hours in my room colouring, sketching and painting. Every time my dad used to go away on trips I would love it when he returned with beautiful boxes of pencils for me to enjoy and there was something mesmerising at seeing all the rainbow colours in their box lined up. Thankfully Roo has developed a love of colouring too. It took some time, but now the two of sit together and can colour pictures, draw stories and paint our adventures. It is lovely too that she’s been building her own collection of pencils and pens too, which this week were bolstered substantial with some beautiful colouring pens from Faber-Castell, as well as their chunky crayons, click together paints and very clever ergonomic grip first writers pencil.
All of these lovely products have been produced to celebrate the new Faber-Castell painting app “Creative Kids”.
The app is a brilliant interactive painting app. Beautifully designed, featuring wobbling mice, crawling bugs and giggling colour-ghosts – the Creative Kids app brings colour pencil pictures to life! It offers numerous fascinating applications to young artists from the age of six who want to experience great painting adventures. It’s easy as pie: step by step the app illustrates how moving images and animations can be created with paper, colour pencil and iPad. Children’s fine motor skills, creativity and imagination are playfully trained at the same time. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store for the iPad free of charge. Even though Roo is just short of 5 and younger than the age suggested she had great fun with me.
Each of the products we were sent are stunning and some of the nicest colouring supplies we’ve got; the colours are vibrant and rich, the pens don’t fuzz or tear colouring pages or bleed into pages. They are washable on a 30 degree wash in light fabrics and have a very clever feature. The Faber-Castell pens all come in a very special connector bucket that features fun and innovative “connector clips” to allow children to create their own designs and models, as well as create their very own master pieces. The pens can then be stored away neatly when your budding artist has finished with them and are excellent value at £14.99
The crayons come in two different shapes for different ages. The colourful grasp- and finger crayons are made for kids between three and six years. This enables even the smallest children to effortlessly create their first works of art. The crayons are erasable and don’t stain, so children’s hands stay clean when painting. They are also priced reasonably at £5.95 for Pear Shaped Easy Grip Crayons and £5.95 for Finger Shaped Easy Grip Crayons.
The Connector Paint box and Clic&Go water pot is the latest addition from the innovative Connector range, which has won numerous design awards. Thinking of everything that little artists might need, the range includes the Connector Paint Box with 12 or 24 vibrant water-soluble shades of colour. Also included is the ergonomic sliding grip Clic&Go paint brush, which means mums and dads need never worry about messy tables again. In addition, budding Picassos need no longer rely on an old jam jar to wash their paint brushes as they create their masterpieces, thanks to Faber-Castell’s Connector Clic&Go water pot.
The final clever item we’ve been sent is perfect for the back to school push of getting the kids ready to start their learning again. Although Roo already has good pen control she struggles with forming her ‘S’ the right way and also her ‘D’ so the Scribolino propelling pencil which has been developed to support the skills in a child’s first years at school will hopefully help her pen control and confidence grow. It’s ergonomic barrel promotes the ergonomic triangular shaft and provides the highest level of writing comfort. The pens come in blue and blackberry shades, and also available in rollerball pen and are priced at £3.95 each.
