Abney and Teal is one of mine and Roo’s favourite shows on CBeebies, it reminds me of what children’s television used to be like and takes me back to the days of Bagpuss with it’s traditional style animation and beautiful stories of friendship and adventure. Roo and I will often sit cuddled up with a cup of tea watching it and when I saw that they were releasing Abney and Teal toys including rag dolls and giant floor jigsaws I wanted to get some for Roo.
We were kindly sent an Abney and Teal rag doll and a floor puzzle to review and were delighted that we could re-enact our own adventures at home with these life like and beautifully put together toys. The Abney and Teal rag doll toys are the perfect size for taking along on travels. They are soft and easy for little hands to hold and not heavy like some doll based character toys we have had in the past.
Children can choose between Abney or Teal to play with and each of them is dressed in their outfits and looking perfectly like their on-screen characters. Even Teal’s familiar button squashed nose looks just like it does on the television and Roo instantly took to both the toys as we opened our box of delights. Being rag dolls they have traditional features such as real woollen hair which for me add to the character of the dolls. Measuring approximately 30cm each they are the perfect size for hugging and snuggling with.
Also in the Abney and Teal toy range is a 24 piece puzzle set which is ideal for toddlers aged 18 months upwards. The pieces are a good size for small hands and fit together easily to create a colourful picture measuring approximately 49 cm x 68½ cm. The puzzle set is presented in a beautiful, sturdy gift box with rope handle, making it a perfect gift for Christmas or birthdays.
Roo is nearly four now and did find the jigsaw a bit easy but her friend who is just over two loved this and took great delight in working out the pieces and they are nice and chunky so easy to grab and fit together and well made to with stand the rigours of toddlers and pre-school children.
The Abney and Teal collection is available from sellers including Waitrose, selected Boots stores and Amazon. The Abney and Teal rag dolls retail at around £20 each and I think they are excellent value for money as they are traditional toys that encourage imagination, role play, adventure and help with children’s speech as you can create some amazing adventures with them. The jigsaw is also very reasonably priced at £12.99
