Disney On Ice Dare to Dream at The O2 London

disney on ice dare to dream - uk mummy bloggerLast year Roo and I were lucky enough to take one of her friends at school to the Disney on Ice show at the NIA Birmingham and have some VIP passes thrown in to.  It was a magical evening and the first time we’d done any of the Disney on Ice shows and I have to say we were all impressed with the quality of the show, the performance had us all singing and dancing and it was a perfect length for the kids.

So when we heard that the Disney on Ice Dare to Dream show was going to the O2 London this year I immediately asked Miss Roo if she wanted to go.  Big mistake.  You’d think in five years of parenting I’d have realised you don’t ask your kids about things like this; you simply plan them and don’t tell them and therefore avoid months of nagging and constant ‘is it time yet?’ style questions.

Why Play is Vital For Kids

why play time is vital for kids - uk mummy bloggerWhilst the topic of this blog may sound blindingly obvious I think it’s all too easy for us parents to get complacent sometimes and assume that our kids can amuse themselves or resort to TV parenting.  I’ve done I, I hold my hands up and admit it.  Sometimes I can’t face yet another game of imaginary play as my brain is mashed from a day’s writing or doing PR and so I take the wimps option and resort to some TV time or computer time on the CBeebies or Tiny Pop websites.  Play is vital for kids though in helping them learn vital social skills and to also give them quality time with you.  So I am delighted to be supporting the Make Time To Play campaign this year to highlight just how important it is.

How To Baby Proof Your Home

how to baby proof your home uk mummy bloggerI must admit when Roo first became mobile we did baby proof a little bit in terms of putting locks on some cupboards and stair gates up, but unlike some friends we didn’t go to extreme levels of covering plugs and putting stoppers in door hinges.  Maybe we should have done but to be honest we were pretty lucky with her in that whilst curious she never did herself any damage.  True to form we took her stair gate off her bedroom about a week ago now and we’ve only had one incident in her getting out of bed at nighttime and coming downstairs.  Whilst our method of parenting may not sit with everyone, there is no ignoring that there is common sense in baby proofing your home once little legs get moving and hands start being inquisitive.
