Lunchboxes for kids with a difference

I have to admit that my lunchboxes for work are pretty average.  Usually a salad or a ham sandwich, a packet of crisps and some fruit.  No doubt when Roo starts school in September it will be the same just cleverly disguised in some character lunchbox to get her to eat it.

Well in Japan this really wouldn’t cut it – I would probably be sent to Lazy Parenting classes and reprimanded with a big stick for slacking off.  Why? Well on one of my random web searches today I came across this brilliant news article on the BBC about amazing lunchboxes in Japan.

Half Term Activities Adventure Ideas

Let’s face it half term fills kids with excitement and many parents with dread. Luckily for me Roo is still at nursery so it means more time for blogging, erm I mean serious housework. All joking aside with money getting tighter than ever it is great to find half term activities that aren’t going to break the bank but that will keep little monkeys and big monkeys entertained.

Thankfully the clever people over at The Woodland Trust have come up with a range of half term activities with a real adventure theme that are bound to keep miniature explorers busy and out from under your feet!

Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch Ideas Sponsored Video

To be honest I wasn’t all that bothered about the Jubilee this weekend.  I’m not a royalist, not even a big fan of the whole monarchy thing and had just seen it as another excuse to get us Brits to part with yet more cash and fund more tourist tat.

That was however until I heard about the Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch. The Big Lunch is not a new concept, in fact this is the fourth Big Lunch and just happens to fall on the same weekend as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

As announced by Buckingham Palace The Big Jubilee Lunch will be a part of the main programme of events over the central weekend of Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012. A special 4-day bank holiday – Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th June. So, what better way to get outside and get your neighbours together and get to know each other over sandwiches, cake and lots of scrumptious goodies whilst having a holiday at the same time!

Enter the amazing world of virtual story books with Magic Town

In our house we absolutely love stories. Whether it is reading traditional favourites such as The Ugly Duckling or soon to be classics such as The Gruffalo reading at bedtime is a nightly ritual in our house with Roo.

So when I heard about a virtual world that brings story books to life right in front of children and is interactive and educational I was excited to try it.  E-learning is becoming a great way to engage children with even some schools investing in iPads for older pupils.   I was interested to see what lay ahead with this review opportunity.

Making the right choices for your child

Sometimes as parents it seems pretty obvious in making the right choices for your child, other times it isn’t so easy.  Take recently the whole dilemma we’ve had with Roo’s nursery, the decision to go or not to go to school in September and continue in a paid pre-school – that was one that took a lot of thinking about and still the end result didn’t sit comfortably with me.

So much so that I’ve been beating myself up terribly emotionally about it for the last two weeks.  Roo is so looking forward to going to school in September and so eager to earn I began to feel like I was the one jeopardising her first chance at learning and all because I wanted to make things easier for me.  Easier in the sense that by continuing to go to a paid pre-school she would be there at least 3 full days a week till around 5pm which meant I would still get time to do jobs at home and work.
